Instructor: Dr. Dalia Wahdan
This course
examines some of the most
controversial aspects of the use of natural resources. It focuses on the socio-political issues of water
resource management and sharing, the building of large dams and their effects
on the natural environment and local populations. Bearing in mind the
trans-national nature of natural resources and the mega projects constructed to
regulate them; case studies will be presented and critically examined from an anthropological perspective. Issues of human versus cultural rights over
access to resources will be assessed and
how politics of governance are played out on multiple scales from the national
to the international and the global will be explored.
