Instructor: Dr. Shweta Rana
This course focuses on understanding the patterns of relations between
the organisms and their environment. It
is designed to provide an in-depth understanding
of the way natural systems work, how
they are structured, and how they
have evolved. The course content includes discussions of biotic and abiotic interactions that regulate ecological
population size and community structure. Using
ecological principles we will analyze why the earth’s major biomes (ecosystems) are found where they
are on the earth's surface. The emphasis
would be on the characteristics and phylogenetic classification of life, a survey of the physiological adaptations
to aquatic and terrestrial environments, a comparison
of the reproductive and development strategies utilized by various phylogenetic groups, a study of fundamental
ecological principles and a survey of classical
and population genetics. The theory of Biodiversity would also be studied.
