Energy: Renewable and Non-Renewable

This primary focus of this course involves understanding various aspects of both the traditional and the more modern sources of energy. Topics covered include petroleum geology, coal geology, mining techniques, nuclear energy, solar energy, and wind energy. The course will involve interfacing with private and governmental organizations and potential trips to power plants, mines, oil refineries, solar and wind farms.
The course will involve labs such as interpreting seismic reflection data to determine the location of oil deposits, the petrology of important economic deposits. Other potential activities include assembling solar panels and windmills.
